La Guesnonière
Montcuit
A Japanese garden in the Manche
Actually, two very different gardens lay side by side. The first one has been created in 1996 around a huge pond with an island, gunneras and rocks. At the far south, a steep and wooded slope leads to the second garden, the masterpiece, a showcase collection of Japanese maples (Acer palmatum), hydrangeas, which was begun in 2003 by Michel Leforestier. The dazzling autumn colours are set off by the zen feel ofa river of pebbles and an impressive stone cascade. The pool with its reflections and a red-lacquered bridge accentuate its oriental leaning.
